Microneedling in Pinecrest: the quiet science behind a lit-from-within glow
There's a certain kind of glow you can't fake. Not the kind that washes off at the end of the night — the kind that comes from skin that's genuinely healthier underneath. At The Aesthetics Lounge Pinecrest, microneedling is one of our favorite ways to get there: a treatment that doesn't resurface you so much as reawaken you, gently prompting your skin to do what it already knows how to do.
If you've been curious about it — what it actually does, whether it's right for you, what the day-of experience feels like — here's everything, in plain language, from the people who'll be holding the device.
What microneedling actually is
SkinPen before and after
Microneedling is collagen induction therapy. The name sounds clinical, so here's how our providers tend to explain it in the consultation room:
Think of your skin like a lawn that's gone a little flat over the years. Microneedling is the aeration. We create thousands of tiny, controlled channels across the surface — far too small to see, but enough to send your skin a signal: time to rebuild.
That signal is the whole point. Your body responds to those micro-channels the way it responds to any cue to repair — by ramping up circulation to the area and waking up the fibroblast cells deep in your dermis. Those cells are your skin's builders, and what they build is fresh collagen and elastin: the two proteins responsible for firmness, bounce, and that smooth, even look we associate with younger skin.
What we love about it is how honest the mechanism is. There's no heat involved, no chemical resurfacing, no stripping away of healthy tissue. Micr
oneedling works mechanically — it simply encourages your skin to renew itself on its own timeline. Because it doesn't rely on heat and doesn't target pigment, it tends to be a thoughtful option across a wide range of skin tones, including deeper complexions that can be more reactive to some light-based treatments. Your provider will always confirm what's right for you during your consultation.
Your microneedling experience at The Aesthetics Lounge Pinecrest
Every clinic does this a little differently, and the details matter. Here's how a session flows with us, start to finish.
SkinPen
1. We start with a real conversation. Before anything touches your skin, a licensed provider sits down with you to talk through your goals, your skin's history, and anything that might change the plan. We also have our AI Skin Analyzer device analyze your skin to give us an indepth review of your skin condition. This machine will help us to determine what is the best plan of action for your skin concerns and help us put together the proper plan to achieve your goals. We'd always rather have that conversation first.
2. We prep your skin to respond well. In the days leading up, we'll ask you to pause certain active ingredients — think retinol and strong exfoliating acids — so your skin arrives calm and resilient rather than already sensitized. Staying well hydrated, inside and out, helps too. To be sure the skin is clean and ready to receive we normally recommend a Hydrafacial to prepare your skin so it is ready for the skinpen. On the day, we cleanse with a gentle, pH-balanced cleanser and apply an antiseptic to keep everything clean and safe.
3. We numb, so you're comfortable. A topical numbing cream goes on and takes roughly 20 to 30 minutes to settle in. Most clients are surprised by how comfortable the treatment actually is.
Numbing + protocol details — We use a Lido/Tetra 23/7 ointment to numb the surface of the skin. After we clean the skin with
4. The treatment itself. Your provider selects a needle depth tailored to your skin and your goals — lighter for tone and brightness, deeper for texture and scarring — and moves the device across the area in a deliberate, even pattern so every zone gets consistent attention. Delicate areas get a lighter touch. The whole thing is usually quick.
5. Right after. It's normal for skin to look flushed, a little like a mild sunburn, sometimes with slight swelling or a warm feeling. For some, there may be tiny pinpoint spots depending on depth. This is your skin's repair cycle switching on — and for most people it settles within 24 to 72 hours.
Why a medical-grade treatment beats the at-home roller
This is the question we get most, so let's be direct about it.
At-home microneedling rollers are built to be safe for untrained hands, which means their needles are short and often blunt — they barely reach past the surface. They might give you a temporary smoothness or help a serum absorb a bit better, but they can't reach the depth where real collagen remodeling happens. And used incorrectly — too much pressure, not enough cleaning, too often — they can do more harm than good, raising the risk of irritation, infection, or even scarring.
Professional microneedling is a different category entirely. In our hands, the device is medical-grade and adjustable, so depth is matched precisely to your skin. Just as importantly, you're being treated by a licensed provider trained in facial anatomy, sterile technique, and how to read your skin in real time. That's where meaningful, lasting results come from — and it's why this is performed in a clinical setting, not your bathroom mirror.
It's worth knowing how the FDA sees this, too: microneedling tools are regulated as medical devices specifically when they're designed to penetrate the skin and affect its structure. The professional-grade devices cleared for that purpose are intended for trained providers treating adults — another reason the chair you sit in matters as much as the technology.
What microneedling can help with
Microneedling is a quiet overachiever. Because it works at the foundation, it tends to improve several things at once:
Fine lines and early signs of aging. As fresh collagen forms, it adds support and softness to the areas where creases settle first — a smoother, more rested look that builds gradually rather than freezing the surface.
Acne scars and uneven texture. By encouraging cell turnover and remodeling, microneedling can help soften the look of pitted scarring and refine rough patches that creams alone often can't reach.
Tone, clarity, and glow. Sluggish, dull-looking skin gets a wake-up call: better circulation, gentle natural exfoliation, and newly surfaced skin that catches the light more evenly. Your skincare tends to work harder afterward, too.
Results are designed to build, not to appear overnight — which is exactly what makes them look natural.
Recovery, aftercare, and when you'll see results
The days right after your treatment do a lot of the heavy lifting, so we keep aftercare simple and specific.
In the first 24 hours: skip strenuous workouts, hot showers, saunas, and anything that overheats the skin. Let it breathe.
For the first few days: hold off on makeup and any harsh or active skincare. Sleep on a fresh pillowcase, keep your hands off your face, and be gentle.
What to put on your skin:
Amplify renewal with Juvexo. Many of our clients choose to apply Juvexo immediately after microneedling — a potent cellular renewal serum that works with the micro-channels we've just created to accelerate healing and maximize collagen remodeling. It deepens the glow and helps you see results faster. Your provider can apply it in-session or send you home with a treatment plan.
Hydrate first. A clean, fragrance-free hyaluronic acid serum is your best friend in the early hours and days — it floods the skin with moisture, eases tightness and flaking, and supports that early plumpness.
Pause the actives. Give retinol, glycolic and salicylic acids, and vitamin C a rest for about 5 to 7 days (or longer if your skin still feels tender). Lean on calming, barrier-loving ingredients like panthenol, allantoin, or centella instead. Your provider will tell you when it's safe to reintroduce the strong stuff.
Protect, every single day. Your skin is more sun-sensitive right now, so a broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen (zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, SPF 30 or higher) is non-negotiable — even indoors and on cloudy days. A wide-brimmed hat doesn't hurt.
For Your Recovery we recommend--
Neova CU-3 Tissue Repair
Neova cu 3 recovery, HA 'Ourself' serum and sunscreen. — These are the serums and skincare lines available at The Aesthetics Lounge Pinecrest.
On timing: collagen takes time to build, so the most noticeable results tend to arrive around the three-month mark and keep developing from there. Most people see the best, most lasting outcome from a series of sessions spaced roughly four to six weeks apart. Your provider will map out a plan built around your skin and your goals during your visit.
A note on safety: microneedling is well-tolerated when it's performed by trained professionals, and side effects are usually limited to temporary redness, mild swelling, or pinpoint spotting. It isn't the right fit for everyone — if you have an active skin infection, certain skin conditions, a history of keloid scarring, or you take blood-thinning medication, let us know, and we'll find the safest path forward together.
Microneedling vs. laser: which is right for you?
Both can refine texture and tone, but they take different routes. Laser resurfacing uses heat to remove damaged layers, which often means more downtime and more sensitivity afterward. Microneedling skips the heat entirely and works through controlled, mechanical renewal — which generally translates to a gentler recovery and a treatment that's friendly to a wider range of skin tones.
Many clients also choose to enhance their microneedling with add-ons that deepen the result. Juvexo, our signature post-treatment cellular renewal serum, accelerates healing and maximizes collagen remodeling when applied immediately after — many see results weeks faster. We also offer options like radiofrequency microneedling (such as Morpheus8) for deeper concerns. The right combination — and whether microneedling, enhanced microneedling, or something else fits your goals — is exactly the kind of thing we'll talk through in person.
We recommend Vamp® by Revanesse® —a bio-revitalizing skin booster designed to be used with microneedling, RF microneedling, lasers, and other skin rejuvenation treatments. It is not a traditional filler that adds volume. Instead, it focuses on improving skin quality, hydration, healing, and collagen stimulation.
